Living with an open G/Self Center
In Human Design, once you gain an understanding of your type, strategy and authority and have started to experiment living with them, the next step is to really settle in to what each of your centers does and the differences between having an open/undefined center and a closed/defined center. When a center is closed/defined (colored in your chart), it means that the function related to that center is activated, steady and consistently available at all times. When a center is open/undefined (white in your chart), it means that the function related to the center is inconsistent; not always available and only becomes activated when another person (who has the center defined/closed) comes into your awareness or when a transiting planet completes a definition. When this happens, the undefined center is temporarily defined.
When you look at your Bodygraph (chart), it is easy to determine what centers are defined and undefined by looking at the colors. All the white centers are undefined, and the colors are defined. This is also the way to see which of the person’s energetics is running consistently, and what is being influenced by conditioning and the environment. When a center is undefined, we have the propensity to take in and absorb the energies related to that center. This normally happens by being around people who have that center defined. If we have put ourselves into an environment that is unhealthy, it is important to be aware of the potentially ‘dis-easing’ effect of the people we are around. All of this is just important to remember that it is our responsibility to take care of our own being, for our wholeness.
The Self/G center, in human design is one of the most important centers. It gives us access to our sense of direction, purpose and love of life. The center where the soul is located. The liver is also represented by this center.
Who are you?
There are eight gates that make up this center and they connect to the 12 signs of the zodiac and, when the sun passes through them, align with the eight seasonal high points of the year (solstices, equinoxes, etc.)
When you have a defined G/Self center you normally know where you are going and are consistently connected with the ways of the world. Your role is to give love. Your sense of self is pretty solid, and you know where you are going even if you are not quite sure yet how you are getting there.
When you have an open G Center, it is similar to living as a chameleon. As the chameleon moves from one environment to another it’s natural camouflage of changing colors kicks in, and it begins to change its colors to fit in wherever it is. If you have an open G center, you do the same. You can fit in, wherever you are.
Here are 10 aspects of an open G center
1. You may understand other’s people’s sense of self and direction. It is quite common to take in another person’s identity and amplify it giving them insight into another person’s perspective.
2. You may also be constantly pushing the boundaries of life as though you have no limits.
3. As this center is about direction, it is important to be in the right place at the right time. With practice you will get that gut feeling of knowing if you are in the right town, right office or even the right home. When you are in the right place, the right opportunities show up. It is also important to know you will also get a feeling about being in the wrong place and then get all the wrong opportunities or none at all. It is all about learning to listen to the feelings in your body.
4. You may have a fear that you are unlovable. Part of this is because who you perceive yourself to be is always changing and therefore how you receive love is also changing. May make children/then adults vulnerable to self-esteem issues.
5. Having an open identity center gives you the ability to have friends and acquaintances from all walks of life. You will be very comfortable in a room with someone with a checkered past and the chairman of the board.
6. If you are in a relationship with someone with a defined/closed G center, it will be important not to get lost in the relationships and to remember that your partner may be better at giving the relationship direction.
7. It is not your job to know who you are, or to use your mind to make decisions. Surrender to the guidance that life naturally brings you.
8. Many with undefined G centers find themselves searching for spiritual truth.
9. The more aware you are of all the open G center brings, the less likely you will fall into following what cultures and traditions have deemed appropriate for you. Instead, you will listen to the people in your circle with defined G centers that you trust and move into different environments and sense the comfort of where you now are.
10. Be prepared that you most likely will not be in one place, with the same people, or even have the same furniture for long periods of time. With an open G center, you are continuously moving through life changing your environment. You may even show back up where you once had been, and it will feel completely different. Yes, things do change, and you never know what your open G center is going to reveal to you. Just remember it is incredibly present and aware of the changes and go with the flow.
It is important as you read through these traits of the open G center to begin to fully understand that the open G center NEVER knows who it is, it never will. It will change and go through many identities during this lifetime. Exercise your ability to choose the correct environment and people to surround yourself with. Just remember as the environments changes so will you.
You have the ability to trust the universe and to simply allow life, love and direction to be shown to you. This can be hard to understand, as we are conditioned from childhood to use our minds to figure out who we are, where we are going and so forth. Yet, if you have an open G center, this is not who you are. Surrender to the guidance that life brings to you naturally, and as you get out of your own way, so many potential possibilities will emerge for you to experience and have a love-filled journey.
